Blinking Lights for Safety:
A few years ago, I was given a strobe flashing device by one of our bus drivers who suggested we provide one to all of our students to keep them safe on our roadways on the way to and from school during the long, cold, and mostly dark winter school days. The blinking light clips to a backpack or jacket and provides a clear warning for oncoming traffic that there is a student up ahead. The idea is simple, but it is ingenious for our Minnesota students during the winter months. Giving our students these small safety devices has proven to be a big success.
This year we are again promoting student safety by distributing small blinking lights. St. Luke’s is helping sponsor this safety initiative again, and we appreciate their partnership. We hope these will help everyone see our students at their bus stops and on their way to and from school. We plan to distribute these lights the first week in February to all elementary school students. We will also have flashing devices available for students at our secondary schools.

CHANGES TO THE COVID NOTIFICATIONS
Our Rail Safe Committee met on January 20th to recommend some changes to the Safe Return to School Plan. Some of those changes are related to our COVID notifications procedures. We made the decision to no longer send close contact notifications to our staff and families. However, we will continue to send exposure notifications. Our decision is based on our ability to send close contact notifications in a timely manner and we were finding that sending an exposure and close contact notification were leading to confusion. We are making some changes to our exposure notification that will help families better understand steps they may need to take to keep their students in schools.
