DECA

PHS DECA students are hard at work preparing for the state competition in early-March and in doing so, they are providing valuable products and services to our local community. One group (called PEAK) is working to raise awareness about mental health struggles for athletes. They fundraised for raffle prizes, then held an educational booth at a UMD men's hockey game. Attendees had to answer questions about mental health to be able to enter the raffle - they walked away with some nice prizes! This group was also on the radio talking about their project.Another group (Love in a Basket) is raising money/supplies for new mothers in need - they've so far purchased approximately $2000 worth of new baby/postpartum supplies, which they grouped into baskets and brought to SafeHaven, among other places. They were just featured in a WDIO news story, which brought even more donations in!Another group is working with Animal Allies to develop a useful map of the approximate areas covered by various animal shelters in Northern MN/WI. They did a ton of phone call/internet research to create this, and they just debuted their map online to a very positive response! Animal Allies stated how much of their time is spent fielding phone calls about stray animals from areas they don't even intake from - this map is designed to combat that.
