Transportation

Our mission is to provide the safest transportation available to all our students. Annually we train our drivers on defensive driving techniques, obstacle road courses, first aid, CPR, and student behavior management.

School buses are one of the safest forms of ground transportation in the U.S. They are 10 times safer than your passenger car or truck. Large school buses are heavier and distribute crash forces differently than do passenger cars and light trucks. Because of these differences, the crash forces experienced by occupants of buses are much less. 95% of vehicles that hit a school bus go underneath the bus. (“Under your feet”) Crash protection to passengers of large school buses is through a concept called “compartmentalization”. This requires that the interior of large buses provide occupant protection such that children are protected without the need to buckle up. Through compartmentalization, occupant crash protection is provided by a protective envelope consisting of strong, closely-spaced seats that have energy-absorbing seat backs.
School Bus Safety
During the first two weeks of the school year, students at Proctor Public Schools receive school bus training on how to ride the school bus safely. Students are also educated to be wary of the Danger Zone around the school bus.
